Position Summary

The Foundation seeks a program associate for the Baltimore Civic Site team to support the ongoing development and implementation of outreach and engagement strategies for Baltimore City’s youth and residents. This position will also support the National Community Strategies team, which works with local partners to improve the neighborhoods where kids and families live by promoting access to good schools, affordable homes and job opportunities and by strengthening community safety.

 

Specific Responsibilities

For the Baltimore team:

  • Support results-based leadership programs by:
  • Help to shape or refine an integrated and unified approach to the team’s current and developing efforts in Baltimore
  • Facilitate meetings and conversations with a diverse group of stakeholders such as youth, parents, funders, practitioners, community members and leaders and organizational, public system and city leadership
  • Identify cofunding and other mechanisms to strategically attract and engage other funders to support key projects
  • Provide short- and long-term project management and implementation support for in-house efforts and high-profile projects involving multiple external partners
  • Help to manage a grantee pool with capacity-building needs, including providing technical assistance with the grant request, ensuring budgets are properly structured, following up with reporting and meeting deadlines
  • Shepherd the ongoing development and implementation of the Foundation’s youth and young adult strategy in Baltimore, including specific efforts to engage youth
  • Conduct research and network to learn and stay updated regarding key work-related areas
  • Lead the ongoing development and implementation of key strategies within the Baltimore portfolio focused on youth engagement
  • Work directly with and support team members in the Foundation’s role in citywide initiatives for collective impact on the well-being of children and families in Baltimore
  • Represent the team at relevant meetings and conferences and assist in organizing and participating in meetings, conferences and site visits
  • Actively participate in and document team meetings and support the team in achieving goals across the portfolio
  • Perform other supportive functions as needed

For the National Community Strategies team:

  • Provide program and project management support for Family-Centered Community Change
  • Assist with grant making, including reviewing proposals and budgets, maintaining correspondence with grantees and consultants and responding to requests for materials and information
  • Support in-person and remote peer-learning activities for the FCCC Learning Network
  • Manage, track and update FCCC performance data in internal performance management system
  • Support grantee capacity building and internal application of racial and ethnic equity and inclusion principles
  • Represent the National Community Strategies team at relevant meetings and conferences and assist in organizing and participating in meetings, conferences and site visits

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, policy or a related field preferred
  • At least five years of professional experience, including at least three years of successful experience in the nonprofit sector or urban communities
  • Familiarity and experience working with diverse stakeholders, including government leaders, service providers, anchor institutions, nonprofits, local education agencies and other institutional partners
  • Familiarity with systems of care and best practices focused on high-quality early education, youth development, education support services and parenting education desirable
  • Experience in self-managed, task-driven initiatives with the ability to balance the demands related to multiple projects and multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Experience with and knowledge of evidence-based practice concepts
  • Previous community-driven work and the ability to relate to and influence a variety of external partners, including civic leaders, community organizations, elected and appointed politicians, youth and parents
  • Knowledge of and successful experience in urban communities

  • Proficient with computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • An understanding of Baltimore’s youth development funder and nonprofit ecosystems — including funder priorities, areas of work, school- and community-based organizations and public perception —desired

 

Compensation

This is an exempt position. Starting salary is commensurate with experience. A strong benefits package will be provided.
