    FactSet Research Systems, a FORTUNE "100 Best Places to Work" for 5 consecutive, and a Forbes "200 Best Small Companies" for 13 consecutive years, is seeking a Director of User Experience Researcher to join a growing Application Design team that's dedicated to improving user experiences and product quality.
    FactSet's Application Design team defines the visual signature and user interaction standards for FactSet's desktop, web, and mobile applications. Designers collaborate on cross-functional project teams to deliver high-quality products that meet corporate and client needs.

    The researcher will perform the critical role of validating UI concepts and product ideas with clients and gathering actionable feedback on user needs and usability. The research role will establish research strategies, conduct studies, and present findings that will inform improvements in the user experience of FactSet's products.

    Responsibilities
    • For any given research activity
      • Solicit business goals and participant criteria from Product teams
      • Identify the best methodology to meet the business goals, including flexible approaches to best meet product goals
      • Define discussion topics / questions that will yield actionable feedback that is directly relevant to the goals
      • Develop a research plan that outlines the goals & methodology
      • Write moderator guides that document the topics / questions to be covered during the sessions
      • Coordinate recruitment and scheduling for activities with Sales & Marketing
      • Moderate research activities and sessions
      • Analyze results and compose a formal report that details the participant behaviors & feedback, identifies patterns, and provides actionable product & design recommendations that address both client and business concerns; ensure stakeholders are satisfied with the results and present results to a larger audience as needed
    • Contribute subject matter expertise in the area of user behavior during the design process to help create an innovative, customer-centric user experience
      • Translate high level product requirements into workflows; create wireframes and prototypes as needed to present solutions to product requirements and usability issues
      • Participate in collaborative sessions with designers to translate research results into personas, profiles, usage scenarios, and workflows
      • Contribute to heuristic evaluations and competitive analyses
    • Contribute subject matter expertise in user research
      • Grow the user research practice and improve our process for gathering user feedback throughout the product development lifecycle
      • Advocate user research early and often in the software development process; identify key areas that will benefit from user research and recommend research activities to key stakeholders
      • Identify usability metrics against which design changes can be tracked and measured to determine their impact
      • Create & document repeatable processes for conducting research activities, including all steps from how to gather information from product teams to ordering refreshments for participants

    • 7+ years' experience planning, conducting, and reporting feedback for a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies (including focus groups, surveys, usability testing, card sorts, personas, task analysis, use cases, competitive analyses, cognitive walkthroughs, contextual inquiries, user observation, one-on-one interviews) to produce actionable results that inform software and/or complex transactional website product development
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors or related discipline with applied research background
    • Mastery of all phases of the research process with strong understanding of when to use each methodology; facile enough with the methodologies to effectively devise flexible approaches that best meet product goals
    • Ability to define relevant and answerable research questions, summarize and prioritize participant feedback into key takeaways, recommend business and product opportunities based on research results, and present findings to stakeholders
    • Knowledgeable about interaction design best practices with ability to translate requirements and user research findings into usable interaction design concepts
    • Comfortable conducting focus groups with excellent moderation, communication, and presentation skills
    • Strong relationship-building skills with ability contribute on cross-functional teams and inspire confidence in and respect for the contributions of user research to the product development process
    • Able to work both collaboratively and independently, meet agreed deadlines, manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, and respond well to changing priorities
    • Strong analytical problem solving skills with ability to find clarity in ambiguous situations; highly organized with solid decision-making skills and passionate about meeting client needs through user-centered design
    • Self-confident, self-motivated, willingness to 'get your hands dirty' in managing all phases of the user research and design processes
    • Strong familiarity with MS Office apps and able to institutionalize value-added tools relevant to research activities (e.g. Morae, Camtasia, Survey Monkey, UserZoom , Websort)
    • Comfortable with video and digital recording technologies
    • Financial Industry knowledge is desired
    • Able to conduct activities after work hours if needed
    • Travel between the NYC and the Norwalk, CT office
