Description

General Purpose

Manages electrical projects within the Naughton Plant coal fired generating station, through all phases of a project from initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and control to completion.

Develops engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the company’s generation, transmission, distribution, telecommunication, or other utility facilities/systems.

Responsibilities

Engineer I Level responsibilities of this position include the following:
Analyze the system design, programming,and modification.
Develop moderately complex studies of limited scope and prepare data for cost estimations and analyses.
Run equipment and performance tests and install and inspect new equipment.
Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to engineering standards.
Under general direction, at the Engineer I level, responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the following electrical equipment:
o    Generator Step Up, Startup, and Auxiliary Transformers
o    Pad mount and load center transformers
o    Medium and low voltage breakers and Motor Control Centers (4160V and 480V)
o    Generator Exciters
o    Distributed Control System (Honeywell DCS)
o    Process Logic Controllers (Allen Bradley PLC)
o    Cathodic Protection
o    LED Lighting Upgrades
o    Battery Banks and Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)
o    Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning (HVAC)
o    Arc Flash Studies (Using SKM)
o    Relays (Schweitzer, SEL 750 and 351, Beckwith M-4272)
o    Heat Tracing
o    Cabling and Cable Tray (4160 and 480)
o    Vibration Monitoring Installation (Bentley Nevada)
o    Telecommunications (Microwave)
o    Environmental Instrumentation (Continuous Emissions Monitors CEMS, Mercury Instrumentation Replacement)
•    Upcoming Budgeted Projects
o    Precipitator Controls Upgrade
o    Honeywell Virtual Migration
o    Coal System PLC Upgrade
o    Mercury Instrumentation Replacement
o    HVAC Replacements
o    LED Lighting
o    Quealy Peak, Viva Naughton, and Pump house Microwave Upgrades
•    May be assigned to manage project in other disciplines as needed.

In addition, the Engineer II level responsibilities include:
Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, process, or facilities to support Company objectives.
Develop electrical engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments.
Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
Guide and direct associate level engineers, technicians and drafters.
Recommend alternative solutions to management in area of specialty on engineering solutions to meet business needs.
Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.
Analyze and design engineering methods.

 In addition,, the Sr. Level responsibilities include:
Perform engineering responsibilities without assistance and little or no supervision.
Perform role as expert electrical network consultant for field operations and customers.
Act as a lead expert in the work group; train and mentor associate and career level engineers, and technicians.
Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, process, or facilities to support company objectives, utilizing engineering methods.
Develop highly complex engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments.
Maintain project timelines and budgets.

Requirements

 

Engineer I Level requirements for this position include the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Basic knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Ability to interact favorably with project and work teams
  • Communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools
  • Hold a valid driver’s license, ability to travel and perform field work as needed.

 In addition, the  Engineer II role includes:

  • A minimum of two years of directly related experience in engineering related field.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness
  • Ability to provide timely assessments with limited information and/or assumptions.

In addition, the Sr. Level Engineer includes:

  • A minimum of five years of directly related experience in engineering related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
  • Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
