Armstrong World Industries (AWI) is currently seeking a Quality Engineer, Architectural Specialties Supply Chain to join our Procurement/Quality team at our headquarters in Lancaster, PA. The Quality Engineer will mainly be responsible for performing engineering duties in support of quality, project risk assessment, customer service, reporting and analysis, and process improvement.

 

Note: Relocation assistance is available to the Lancaster area for this position. Up to 20% travel will be required.

 

Responsibilities of the Quality Engineer:

 

Quality

  • Investigate customer complaints, issue non-conformance reports, monitor corrective action plans
  • Develop Quality Assurance and Design requirements with New Product Development Teams
  • Improve customer satisfaction and reduce product claims
  • Conduct and perform quality assessments; collect and analyze data for claims and quality
  • Provide technical support to AS Project Coordinators and Project Managers

 

Project Risk Assessment

  • Evaluate incoming orders for custom Ceilings and Walls
  • Assess manufacturing resource needs in terms of materials and factory capabilities
  • Determine manufacturing risks (new product, new process, new suspension method)
  • Implement countermeasures to offset risks and ensure on-time quality products to jobsites

 

Customer Service

  • Develop an understanding of customer needs and take actions to ensure that needs are met
  • Effectively communicate proposed solutions to internal customers, management, or other interested parties through written proposals and oral presentations
  • Establish collaborative relationships throughout the organization and with suppliers to work cooperatively to resolve issues and concerns

 

Reporting and Analysis

  • Compile and analyze statistical data to develop policies, procedures, methods, standards, and reports for Architectural Specialties supply chain
  • Provide monthly updates to Key Performance Indicators and Dashboards
  • Develop business insights based on analysis of results, and communicate key findings to management to facilitate data driven decision making
  • Provide analytical and reporting capabilities to procurement and sourcing initiatives

 

Process Improvement

  • Support Quality Improvement and Process Improvement initiatives. Lead and facilitate ad-hoc improvement and project teams. Seek to improve processes/quality and make recommendations
  • Participate in Capacity Building activities at Internal and External suppliers
  • Assume ownership of ongoing cost savings initiatives, including implementation, tracking, and measurement
  • Administer and maintain supply chain document management solutions both internally and between Armstrong Architectural Specialties and suppliers
  • Create, update, and maintain standard work process documentation.

 

Required Qualifications and Education of the Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Mechanical, Industrial or other Engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years experience in Manufacturing or Quality.
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Microsoft Excel
  • Prior demonstrated ability to read blueprints
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills,
  • Ability to interpret quantitative data and communicate results clearly and concisely
  • Experience with Minitab (preferred)
