Job Description

Looking for a senior level construction estimator. If you have 5+ years experience estimating medium to large size projects, please send your resume. This position is located in Pierce County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct initial analysis of drawings and specifications, ensuring required information is provided.
  • Provide narratives for selected portions of a project cost estimate to adequately describe scope and level of quality within an estimate.
  • Solicit sub-contractor pricing and bids for select trades in preparation of cost estimate.
  • Review progress and construction documents for constructability. Lead and participate in discussion regarding alternate detail and materials for specific areas or trades.
  • Provide and present value engineering options and costs for select trades to Chief Estimator.
  • Provide detailed Scope Sheets for select trades.
  • Coordinate support staff in sending documents to vendors.
  • Perform project buy-out and write associated subcontracts
  • Ensures appropriate formatting of estimates for exporting to accounting system
  • Gather and monitor actual cost vs. estimated cost, maintaining project cost history
  • Demonstrate commitment to a safe and injury free work environment through own actions and mentoring others

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Computer knowledge and efficiency with standard industry estimating software’s
  • Broad understanding of industry
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong math/accounting skills
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines
  • Functions effectively as part of a team, but can also be autonomous when necessary
  • Has ability to lead a support staff on larger projects when necessary
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to read drawings and specifications
  • Ability to accurately obtain quantities for building components
  • Possesses a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to read blueprints for all disciplines

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • College degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Cost Estimating/Preconstruction.

Summary: The Estimator will take the lead on putting together budgets and bids for a specific section of work. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience with Bid/Build and Design/Build projects and task orders ranging from $1M to $15M.
